'Dangerously Cold' Weather, Sub-Zero Wind Chills Expected In Illinois

Meteorologists predict wind chills 20 t0 25 below will persist through Wednesday, with the coldest conditions late Monday into Tuesday.

CHICAGO, IL — The weather will be bitter through Wednesday as "dangerously cold" wind chills with sub-zero temperatures are expected, the National Weather Service says.

The very cold wind chills from 20 to 25 below that could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 20 minutes are expected in portions of north central and northeast Illinois, as well as northwest Indiana are predicted for Monday.

A cold weather advisory is in effect in north Illinois until noon on Monday.

Wind chills will drop to around 20 below zero, but after some recovery this afternoon, another round of dangerously cold wind chills of 20 to 25 below is expected in the evening into Tuesday morning.

Meteorologists predict sub-zero wind chills will persist through Wednesday, with the coldest conditions late Monday into Tuesday morning. It is expected that river ice will build up rapidly.

Officials urge residents to use caution while traveling outside, and also to wear appropriate clothing, a hat, and gloves. Pets should be kept indoors as much as possible.
