Father Kills Autistic Son and Wife in Double Murder-Suicide

  • An out-of-work father despondent over financial problems strangled his wife and his autistic 18-year-old son in their beds, then took his own life in the garage of the family home in Oak Forest. David Joost, 54, hanged himself, slashed his wrists and turned on the engine of his car to make sure he wouldn’t survive. Their bodies were found late Monday. On Tuesday, the family pastor told Patch Joost was a “happy” and “helpful” person. “Someone doing so much positive, it doesn’t make sense,” the pastor said.
