An appellate court judge denied Gov. J.B. Pritzker's appeal of a court ruling that overturned his statewide school mask mandate.

The decision that affects hundreds of schools statewide does not apply to Chicago Public Schools, where the mask requirement will remain in place.

  • Mayor Lori Lightfoot blocked a controversial scrap shredder from opening on the Southeast Side. “Concerns about the company’s past and potential noncompliance are too significant to ignore,” Chicago's top doc said. (Yahoo)
  • Nine hospital cafeterias and food vendors failed health inspections last year. Swedish Hospital and Holy Cross Hospital got four failing grades, according to the city public health department. (Eater)
  • Shovel your sidewalk the next time it snows, or it could cost you. Last year, the city issued $155,000 in fines. Folks in Lincoln Park, West Town and the Near West Side community areas got hit with most tickets. (WBEZ)
  • An Arizona prison inmate has been charged with brokering drug deals at O'Hare Airport. Manuel "Chuy" Garcia is charged with orchestrating the sale of crystal meth and fentanyl pills that were sent to a buyer in Joliet on a cellphone that he smuggled into prison. (Fox32)
