CHICAGO, IL — In response to the ongoing coronavirus crisis, which is keeping millions of Americans inside with not a whole lot to do besides work from home (if they can), ESPN announced today that it would be releasing its series on Michael Jordan and the legendary 1990s Chicago Bulls team ahead of schedule. The series, titled "The Last Dance," will feature behind-the-scenes footage of the team as they navigated the 1997-98 season that ended their six-time Championship dynasty.

According to a Twitter trailer that aired in December of 2019, the series will also feature commentary from the likes of former President Barack Obama, the late Kobe Bryant and others.

The announcement of the series' early release was made via another one-minute Twitter video. The series was originally planned for a June launch, but the Twitter announcement indicated that it would instead begin airing on Sunday, April 19.

"On April 19 ... IT BEGINS," the Twitter announcement read.

Billing itself as a 10-part documentary, the series will be available on Netflix and on ESPN, along with ABC's online streaming services. Unlike many streaming series, "The Last Dance" will not be made available all at once for binge-watching. According to ESPN's website, the first two episodes will premiere at 8 p.m. CST April 19. Two new episodes will air at the same time each Sunday for the next four weeks. The series is planned to conclude May 17.

The documentary series is directed by Jason Hehir, who also directed the 2018 documentary on the late entertainer and wrestler Andre the giant, real name Andre Roussimoff, as well as several series about the mixed martial arts competition known as the UFC.
