Ex-Northwestern Prof, Oxford Staffer Indicted In Brutal Stabbing
Wyndham Lathem and Andrew Warren face 6 counts of first-degree murder. The grand jury handed down the indictments Friday.

CHICAGO, IL — Formal grand jury indictments against a former Northwestern University professor and Oxford University staffer accused of savagely stabbing and killing a hairstylist and sparking an eight-day nationwide manhunt after going on the run were handed down Friday, according to WGN-TV News. Wyndham Lathem, who had worked as a microbiologist at the Evanston university, and Andrew Warren, a British citizen, were each indicted on six counts of first-degree murder.
According to authorities, Lathem, 46, and Warren, 57, allegedly stabbed Trenton Cornell-Duranleau, Lathem's 26-year-old boyfriend, 70 times on July 27 inside the former Northwestern academic's high-rise home at the Grand Plaza Apartments in the 500 block of North State Street in the River North neighborhood. Prosecutors have said the attack was the result of a gruesome sex fantasy that involved murder and suicide.
After the fatal stabbing, the pair fled to Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, before Cornell-Duranleau's mutilated and decapitated body was found by police. In Wisconsin, Lathem reportedly donated $1,000 in the victim's name to the city's public library. The pair also donated $5,610 to the Howard Brown Health Center, which provides health and social services help to the LGBT community, the Chicago Tribune reports. Lathem and Warren eventually turned themselves in to authories Aug. 4 after they reached California. A judge ordered the pair held without bail once they returned to Chicago. Lathem is expected to plead not guilty at his next hearing on Sept. 28, Lathem's attorney, Adam Sheppard, told WGN. Warren's lawyer would not comment on his client or the case.
Sheppard said his client is not being mistreated while he's in jail.
“The staff in the prison is treating him with great respect,” the attorney told WGN. “He’s getting along well with all of the staff. He’s trying to remain hopeful and be involved in as many productive programs as possible.”
