Iconic Vest Worn In 'Ferris Bueller's Day Off' Up For Auction, Could Fetch $600K
The auction was announced on the 40th anniversary of the beloved character's "day off."

CHICAGO, IL — The vest worn by actor Matthew Broderick as he played Ferris Bueller on his momentous day off in Chicago on June 5, 1985 is up for auction.
Sotheby's auction house is currently taking bids for the archetypal piece of 1980's American film history until 2:01 p.m. ET on June 24. Bueller's signature sweater vest is expected to fetch bids between $300,000 and $600,000.
"Screen-worn by Matthew Broderick in his legendary title role, the present lot, a camel and chocolate brown sweater vest featuring an almost leopard-print-like pattern of interlocking geometric shapes, is both the most unique item in Bueller’s June 5th ensemble and is today possibly one of the most immediately recognizable film costume pieces from the 1980s," auction house Sotheby's said in a statement.

The vest has minimal pilling and loose threads consistent with age and production-use, the auction house said. The vest is also presented with a variety of items relating to the movie, including a baseball game ticket and a screen-used baseball prop from the game Ferris attends.
Coming-of-age comedy "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" released nearly 40 years ago on June 11, 1986 and told the story of the wildest hooky day in American film history. Bueller is seen wearing the vest while visiting Wrigley Field, the Art Institute of Chicago and taking over a parade.
