Gun Found In Felon's Backpack At Daley Center: Cops

The 42-year-old Chicago man was at the center to pay traffic tickets Tuesday.

CHICAGO — A 42-year-old Chicago man faces weapons charges after deputies discovered a loaded gun in his backpack while he was at the Richard J. Daley Center on Tuesday to take care of traffic tickets, according to the Cook County Sheriff's Office. Brian King was charged with unlawful use of a weapon by a felon and defacing identification marks of a firearm, the sheriff's office said Friday.

The gun was found at around 3:20 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 28, while King was going through a security screening area at the center, 50 W. Washington St. A screening showed what appeared to be a firearm in King's backpack, and a search revealed a 9mm semi-automatic pistol inside, the sheriff's office said.

King had been at the Daley Center to pay parking tickets and see about a suspended driver's license, according to authorities. He was charged Wednesday, Aug. 29, and ordered held on $50,000 bail Thursday, Aug. 30.
