Here Are Detroit's 2022 James Beard Award Finalists

Detroit's top chefs, up-and-coming culinary stars and mouth-watering restaurants received nods on the prestigious list.

DETROIT— Get ready to start making reservations, Detroit foodies.

A veritable smorgasbord of Detroit restaurants — along with their chefs — were named as finalists for the 2022 James Beard Awards.

“Winners will be celebrated at the James Beard Restaurant and Chef Awards ceremony on Monday, June 13, 2022, at the Lyric Opera of Chicago,” the James Beard Foundation’s announcement states.

  • BARDA

Outstanding Pastry Chef

  • Warda Bouguettaya, Warda Pâtisserie

Best Chef: Great Lakes

  • Omar Anani, Saffron De Twah

In the Great Lakes Best Chef competition, five out of six of the finalists work at Chicago eateries, with a lone Detroit chef — Omar Anani of Saffron De Twah — making the cut.
