Hillary Clinton Wins — With Illinois Kids
Scholastic's presidential poll put Hillary Clinton on top with kids in both the country and in Illinois.

Hillary Clinton was a landslide winner over Donald Trump in Scholastic’s student election.
About 153,000 students from kindergarten through 12th grade cast online and mail-in ballots, and 52 percent backed Clinton. Only 35 percent voted for Trump, and write-in candidates took 13 percent.
Clinton was even more popular in Illinois, where she grabbed 58 percent of the vote to Trump’s 31 percent.

Among write-ins, Libertarian Gary Johnson came out on top nationally with about 2 percent of the vote. Bernie Sanders, Clinton’s opponent in the Democratic primary, was not far behind Johnson.
The Scholastic poll has proven to be a good barometer for the actual election.

“Since 1940, the results of the student vote have usually mirrored the outcome of the presidential election,” Scholastic said. “In fact, Scholastic readers have been wrong only twice. In 1948, kids picked Thomas E. Dewey over President Harry S. Truman. And in 1960, more students voted for Richard M. Nixon than for the eventual president, John F. Kennedy.”
Will Scholastic get it right again? We’ll find out Nov. 8.
