'I Hate Defending Scum Like You,' Public Defender Allegedly Told Man Accused of Killing Mom and Dad
The accused ringleader who cajoled three friends into helping him brutally murder his parents wants to fire his public defender in a case that has crawled through the court system for almost five years. John Granat of Palos Park was a 17-year-old high schooler on Sept. 11, 2011, when he enlisted his pals to help him kill his parents, John and Maria Granat, who were found bludgeoned and stabbed in their beds, according to prosecutors. He claims his lawyer told him he deserves "the electric chair" and called him "scum."
