Chicago's former independent watchdog made headlines for injecting himself into the looming U.S. Senate confirmation vote on Rahm Emanuel's pending appointment as U.S. ambassador to Japan.

In a letter to the Senate foreign relations committee, Joe Ferguson wrote that his investigation of the city's response to Laquan McDonald's murder "did not reveal any evidence that would support the lingering surmises and accusations of a “cover-up” orchestrated out of City Hall. None."
