Labor Day 2018: What's Open And Closed In Chicago

Find out how Monday's federal holiday will affect agencies and services around the city, such as weekly trash pickup.

CHICAGO — Labor Day is an American holiday that has drifted away from its roots, and it means different things to different people in different parts of the country. Are you a traditionalist who subscribes to the original idea that the first Monday in September should honor U.S. workers? Or is the day a way for you to mark the end of things such as the summer and wearing white if you're a non-bride?

Whatever camp you belong to, the one part about Labor Day everyone can agree on is that it's a federal holiday. And even if you don't have the day off, the holiday can still have an effect on your week. Here's a look at how Labor Day will impact institutions and services around Chicago:

Chicago Jazz Festival: The annual musical event runs through Sunday, Sept. 2. Check out this performance schedule to see who's playing when.
