CHICAGO, IL — A loaded handgun was found Monday in the carry-on bag of a Las Vegas-bound passenger by Transportation Security Administration officers at Midway Airport, the agency said. A 52-year-old Indiana man now faces a felony charge stemming from the incident.

According to a TSA statement released Tuesday, a loaded .38 Ruger was spotted in luggage by agents during a security checkpoint screening Monday, March 19. A bullet also was in the gun's chamber, the agency says.

TSA officials contacted Chicago police following the discovery, and officers interviewed the bag's owner. John V. Waltz, of LaPorte, Indiana, was arrested by police and charged with boarding an aircraft with a weapon, according to the Chicago Tribune.
