Mark Kirk to Meet with Supreme Court Nominee Merrick Garland

The meeting will take place Tuesday between the GOP senator from Illinois and the president's selection for the high court.

Sen. Mark Kirk, who called for GOP leaders to "man up" and talk to Supreme Court nominee Merrick Garland, will meet with the Lincolnwood native on Tuesday, the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

The Republican senator's office confirmed the meeting to the Chicago Tribune. Kirk will be the first GOP senator to break ranks and speak with President Obama's selection for the nation's highest court.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has repeatedly said he will not fulfill the Senate's obligation to convene hearings to review and vote on the president's nominee. McConnell said there's no point to him even speaking with Garland.
