Mars Wrigley Could Move From Chicago To New Jersey
The city could lose nearly 200 jobs if the new company relocates to the East Coast.

CHICAGO, IL — More than 200 jobs could be lost if Mars Wrigley Confectionery moves from Chicago to New Jersey as a way to combine two of the new company's regional hubs, according to Crain's Chicago Business. Talk of a potential move comes after New Jersey staked $32.7 million in possible incentives Tuesday if Mars Wrigley relocated, the report stated. Without the incentives, the company would've moved as many as 370 jobs from the Eastern state, the report added.
In October of 2016, Mars Inc. announced it was creating Mars Wrigley Confectionery by consolidating two units of the corporation. The new subsidiary is responsible for Snickers, M&M's, Doublemint gum, Altoids, Lifesavers, Skittles and Starburst. While the creation of Mars Wrigley Confectionery was announced last year, the new company wouldn't be phased in until this year.
When Mars announced Mars Wrigley, it also announced that the new company would be headquartered in Chicago. But this new move by New Jersey lawmakers makes that uncertain. If Mars Wrigley does relocate, the city could lose 113 jobs to the company's Newark, New Jersey, site and 92 jobs to a new regional hub in Hacketstown, New Jersey.
