CHICAGO -- Mayor Rahm Emanuel on Wednesday joined Shiftgig, the mobile technology platform that connects businesses with hourly workers, to open the company’s new office in Chicago.

The space is designed to support the company’s plan to add approximately 100 employees in 2018, doubling its internal data science, engineering and product teams, and significantly increase its marketing and sales teams. The company also plans to hire at least 1,500 people in Chicago allowing them to work for local businesses through the Shiftgig app.

“Shiftgigs’s decision to double down on Chicago with a major expansion of its workforce demonstrates what happens when you combine an innovative tech company with our city’s unparalleled talent,” Emanuel said. “I look forward to watching Shiftgig’s continued progress and the opportunities they create for Chicago’s residents.”
