1. Brandon Johnson was sworn in Monday as Chicago’s 57th mayor. Thousands of people attended the ceremony at Credit Union 1 Arena, along with Gov. J.B. Pritzker and outgoing Mayor Lori Lightfoot. “There’s enough room for everyone in the city of Chicago, whether you are seeking asylum or you are looking for a fully funded neighborhood,” Johnson said in his inaugural speech. 2. Thirteen new city council members were also sworn in this week. Their first meeting is set for May 24. (CBS)
3. An off-duty Chicago police officer was found dead in her Pilsen home over the weekend, Patch reports. Officials are investigating the death of 33-year-old Aleshia Carter. (Patch)
4. Visitation will be held today in Oak Lawn for Officer Areanah Preston. The 24-year-old Chicago police officer was shot and killed outside her home last week. Her funeral will be held Wednesday. (Paid source: Tribune)
5. Hundreds of Chicago moms will head to the State Capitol today to advocate for stricter gun laws in Illinois. Attendees at a rally in Springfield will call on lawmakers to enact gun safety legislation this session. (CBS)
