Mom Of 7-Year-Old Boy Who Died In Chicago House Fire Dies Of Injuries
Summer Day Stewart died three days after a home belonging to a Chicago firefighter caught fire, injuring four family members at the house.
CHICAGO — The wife of a Chicago firefighter whose 7-year-old son died in a house fire earlier this week has also died from her injuries, the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office said on Friday
The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office said that Summer Day Stewart, 36, died from her injuries from a fire on Tuesday night that also claimed the life of Ezra Stewart. The boy died on Wednesday night, a day after the house belonging to a Chicago firefighter caught fire.
The fire started at 9:10 p.m. on Tuesday in the 2500 block of North Rutherford on Chicago’s northwest side.

Fire officials have ruled the fire accidental and said that the blaze started in the home’s kitchen. Officials said there were working smoke detectors in the home at the time.
Four people were taken to the hospital in critical condition with smoke inhalation, fire officials said. Three of those family members were children and two of the children, a 2-year-old boy and a 9-year-old girl, remain hospitalized in critical condition.

The homepage for a fundraising effort to assist the family said that the homeowner, Walter Stewart, was on the scene of another fire when he heard the report of the fire at his house on a scanner. The firefighter rushed to the scene and performed life-saving measures on his family members until medical workers could arrive at the scene.
