Moses Budget + Metallica At Metro + Loop Pot Shops + Nagging Nagy

The Chicago Patch is the quickest way to get caught up on what's up — and going down — in the city today.

(Mark Konkol/ Patch)

Good morning, Chicago. It's "Sad But True" Tuesday — in honor of Metallica's surprise return to Metro last night for the first time since 1983. Mark and Jeff here — and we're serving up bite-size takes on all things Chicago news, sports and entertainment for breakfast.

Fire up the coffee pot and let's get started with Bears head coach Matt Nagy's nonsensical, word-salad response to questions about the Bears' lingering quarterback controversy. Intrepid Patch reporter Jeff Arnold dares to wonder: Is Bears Coach Matt Nagy Confused Or A QB Controversy Genius?

The Chicago Patch Top 5:

  • Attention stoners: The City Council approved zoning changes clearing the way for retail weed shops downtown — maybe even a "pot paradise" on the Magnificent Mile. Ald. Brendan Reilly (42nd) said he hopes the move helps make Chicago a bigger weed tourist destination than the Mile High City. "Our goal is to make millions of dollars in revenue off of tourists. ... Denver should not be the cannabis capital of the world. Chicago should be. We are a far more exciting city," Reilly said. (WTTW)
  • Speaking of munchies: You can find Chicago's best quesabirria — the culinary marriage of quesadillas and birria stew — on the South Side at Birriería Zaragoza. That's just a taste of Patch news partner, South Side Weekly's Best of the South Side list, ranking culinary and cultural gems by neighborhood. (South Side Weekly).

  • “We have no Moses, but we do have each other," Mayor Lori Lightfoot said Monday while unveiling her $16.7 billion spending plan she hopes will lead the city to the promise land. The mayor's budget proposal would boost the city's property tax levy by $76.5 million with no new taxes. About $1.9 billion in federal coronavirus relief funds are earmarked for "once in a generation" investments in mental health, affordable housing, violence reduction and more that aim to build a better Chicago. • Metallica made a surprise retuned to Chicago to rock the Metro Monday night for the first time since 1983. Fans lined up on Clark Street to score $20 tickets. Did you go? Tag us on Twitter @ChicagoPatch. (Patch)
  • ICYMI: "Ted Lasso" creator Jason Sudeikis made a poop joke, thanked Chicago improv theaters where he cut his comedic teeth and even name-checked Annoyance Theater founder Mick Napier, while accepting an Emmy for best lead actor in a comedy series. (Eonline) Watch Sudeikis' Emmy speech here.
