No. 2 Leader of ISIS Killed by U.S. Forces: Pentagon

BREAKING: There was a $7 million bounty on the head of Abdul Rahman Mustafa al-Qaduli.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The second in command and heir apparent in the Islamic State leadership was killed by U.S. forces, the Pentagon announced today. Haji Imam, aka Abdul Rahman Mustafa al-Qaduli, was killed in a raid, NBC and Fox News reported, though Defense Secretary Ash Carter would not confirm any details of the operation.

There was a $7 million bounty on his head. CNN reports the operation took place in Syria, the first on-the-ground raid in Syria for U.S. special operations troops.

“We are systematically eliminating ISIL’s cabinet," Carter said, using an acronym for the group most commonly known as ISIS, during a briefing at the Pentagon late morning Friday.

Haji Imam is an experienced operative and one of the longest serving commanders in the terrorist organization. The news comes after an ISIS attack in Brussels took dozens of lives and wounded hundreds. At least two Americans were killed, and a few remain unaccounted for.
