- The Bears have a new head coach named, Matt. Colts defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus takes over after the disappointing Matt Nagy era. The Bears now believe Eberflus is the right person to turn the team into contenders for a Super Bowl title, Jeff Arnold reports. (Patch)
- A 16-year-old shooter charged as an adult in the murder of third-grader Melissa Ortiz, and his 27-year-old driver, were denied bond and jailed Thursday. "Once again, we see today that it is easier for children to obtain firearms than it is for them to obtain a packet of cigarettes," Cook County judge Susanna Ortiz said. (Patch)
- State Rep. LaShawn Ford wants the state and city to reallocate funds to help crime victims relocate. "It's difficult to move on, and it can be complicated if the individual feel trapped in the current home that serves as a reminder of the tragedy they face," the West Side Democrat said. (Fox32)
- Chicago documentary film director Kevin Shaw's new project, "One Golden Summer," follows the rise of the Jackie Robinson West team and the celebrity that followed before the team was stripped of its U.S. title after Little League officials. - Laquan McDonald's grandmother publicly called for the feds to charge convicted murder, former Chicago police officer Jason Van Dyke, with civil rights violations for slaying the black teenager. Van Dyke is set to be released from an out of state prison on good behavior next month. (FOX32)
