No Injuries After Plane Evacuated At Midway Upon Landing

Authorities said the plane experienced a mechanical issue after landing, reports said.

CHICAGO, IL — No one was hurt Monday morning when a Southwest Airlines plane coming from Austin, Texas, had a mechanical issue after landing at Midway International Airport, according to several reports. According to FOX 32, the plane was evacuated and Chicago Fire Department crews were called around 8:20 a.m. for a plane with "a mechanical issue in the front of the plane," Chicago Fire Dept. Deputy District Chief Walter Schroeder reported. The flight, number 4448, turned off the runway after landing and stopped just before it got to a terminal building, Southwest Airlines told the news source in a statement.

According to Southwest Airlines, there were 137 customers and five crew members aboard the flight and all were evacuated and taken to the terminal by buses after the "aircraft experienced a hydraulic issue following landing."

In their statement, Southwest added that the aircraft has been removed from service "pending a maintenance review," FOX 32 reported.
