Notre Dame Investigated for Possible Sexual Violence Violations

U.S. Department of Education's Office for Civil Rights is investigating possible Title IX violations at the university.

The University of Notre Dame is being investigated for possible sexual-violence related violations of Title IX.

Notre Dame is just one of 167 colleges as of late February under Title IX investigations by the U.S. Department of Education's Office for Civil Rights, according to the Associated Press.

Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 "protects people from discrimination based on sex in education programs or activities that receive federal financial assistance," according to the Office for Civil Rights. Under Title IX, the office can investigate and resolve complaints of alleged discrimination, including sexual violence.
