One Woman Dead After SWAT Standoff Tuesday; Suspect in Custody

A 40-year-old woman was found dead in a building on the South Side after SWAT responded to a call of an armed man holding a woman hostage.

CHICAGO — A 30-year-old man is being held without bail after being charged with murdering his girlfriend in Princeton Park.

According to police, Joseph West engaged in a SWAT standoff Tuesday afternoon before Chicago police were able to enter the scene and pronounce Senita Harper dead.

Officers responded to a call at 12:22 p.m. on Tuesday of an armed man holding a woman in a building on the 200 block of West 92nd Street. One firearm was recovered from the scene, Chicago police said in a statement.

The victim, a 40-year-old woman identified as Senita Harper, was found with multiple gunshot wounds to her torso and face and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.
