Police Search Plane From London at O'Hare [UPDATED]

American Airlines jet target of a "threat" on 4th of July, prompting police to board and search.

Chicago, IL — Chicago Police cars surrounded an American Airlines jet at O'Hare International Airport Monday night, and WGN reports the plane was searched by officers due to a threat.

American Airlines Flight 91 from Heathrow Airport in London arrived at 7:32 p.m. and about 250 passengers were allowed to deplane. Police then boarded the plane.

WGN's Sam Unger said sources indicated "something suspicious" was found on the plane.

A spokesperson for American Airlines later said nothing suspicious was found aboard the jet; the airline received a "non-credible threat" and the plane was swept by law enforcement as a precaution.

The FBI is investigating the threat. The nature of the threat and when it was received has not been disclosed.

The plane left Heathrow at 5:41 p.m. London time and was in the air en route to Chicago for almost eight hours.
