Police Shoot Man At Downtown Chicago Hotel After Chase: Reports

The man, who was armed with a knife, fled officers into the hotel and was shot, according to police and media reports.

CHICAGO — A police chase Monday in downtown Chicago ended with law enforcement shooting a wanted man inside a hotel, according to police and media reports.

Officers saw the person, who was armed with a knife, around 2:30 p.m. on West Hubbard Street, police said, adding they chased the fleeing person into a business on East Hubbard Street, identified by WLS as the Courtyard by Marriott hotel.

Inside, officers used Tasers to try to stop the person, who continued to wield the knife and disregard verbal direction, according to police, who said two officers then discharged their weapons. The person was hit in the upper body and taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in critical condition, police said, adding a weapon was recovered from the scene and two officers were brought to a hospital for observation.
