Rain Moves In, Thunderstorms On Tap Before More Rain, Snow: IL Weather

Gusty winds and up to an inch of rain are predicted Tuesday night before some brief sun, more rain and snow showers close out the workweek.

CHICAGO — As area residents continue to settle into April, an unsettled weather pattern continues to change by the day — as it tends to do in the greater Chicago region.

After Tuesday morning brought patchy fog around the region, the National Weather Service is predicting that thunderstorms could arrive Tuesday night as more mild air moves in. Forecasters predict rain could be present during the day Tuesday but that storms are expected after 10 p.m. as the temperatures will remain in the mid-40s. There is a 90 percent chance of rain with gusty winds, and the National Weather Service predicts the region could see anywhere from three-quarters of an inch to an inch of rain overnight before more storms are possible on Wednesday morning.

The rain is expected to stop and give way to partly sunny skies Wednesday as the temperatures inch closer to 60 degrees, forecasters predict. The rain is only expected to produce about one-tenth of an inch before the wet weather moves out temporarily before returning Thursday.

The rain will persist Thursday and into Thursday night, with temperatures hanging around in the upper 40s. As the air turns colder, however, there is a chance for snow showers Friday morning as blustery temperatures will struggle to get beyond the low 40s. There is a 60 percent chance of rain and snow Friday before things eventually dry out for the weekend.
