Robber Impersonating Undercover Chicago Cop Punches Man, 70: CPD

Police have released surveillance images of the suspect who allegedly robbed the man at a CTA Blue Line Station.

CHICAGO, IL — A 70-year-old man was punched in the eye Tuesday by a robber impersonating an undercover Chicago police officer, according to a police community alert. The victim was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, and he was in stable condition, police said.

The robbery happened at around 2:45 a.m. Tuesday, March 6, at the Monroe Station along the Blue Line at 114 S. Dearborn St., police said. The victim was approached by the robber, who claimed he was an undercover police officer and asked for the 70-year-old man's ID, according to the community alert.

When the victim removed his wallet, the robber grabbed it, and the two men struggled, police said. The robber then hit the 70-year-old man, and he fled, according to police.

The suspect is described as a black man, around 50 to 55 years old, 6 feet to 6 feet 2 inches tall and 180 to 22 pounds. He was last seen wearing a grey knit cap, a black puffy coat, blue jeans and tan boots, police said. He was also carrying a black bag.
