Slain Chicago Cop: Support Continues For Family, CPD (VIDEO)
Find out how you can still donate to the fund helping the fallen officer's wife and teen daughter.
CHICAGO, IL — Chicago police Cmdr. Paul Bauer was laid to rest Saturday with thousands paying their respects during the fallen officer's funeral and the procession that followed. But the desire of many Chicagoans to continue to look for opportunities to support Bauer's wife and teenage daughter, as well as the commander's fellow officers in the Chicago Police Department, didn't end with the weekend's services.
On Sunday, Chicago police Supt. Eddie Johnson thanked the representatives from more than 300 out-of-town police departments residents who attended the 31-year CPD veteran's funeral. He also thanked the numerous residents who dropped off food for the rank and file at area police stations or simply offered words of encouragement to officers in the community.
"Hundreds of pizzas, surprise dinners, cards & flowers have been delivered anonymously to district stations & headquarters in support of CPD," police spokesman Anthony Gulielmi wrote in an an online update, echoing Johnson's sentiments. "A sincere thank you to everyone."

Support also extended to Bauer's family. The Oak Lawn tavern Reilly's Daughter donated 100 percent of all its food sales Sunday, Feb. 18, to the Paul Bauer Memorial Fund. Musician Liam Durkin donated his time with live music Sunday night at the Irish pub at 4010 W. 111th St.
Phillip Kline, former Chicago police superintendent and executive director of the Chicago Police Memorial Foundation, which aides the families of officers killed or hurt in the line of duty, presented a $60,000 check Friday to Bauer's wife, Erin, and his 13-year-old daughter, Grace. Earlier this week, Guglielmi said officers in the Near North District — the district Bauer led — would be taking Grace to school at Johnson's urging.
