Some states are proving more effective than others in getting their residents vaccinated. In Illinois, 49.6% of the population are fully vaccinated, a smaller share than the U.S. average.
Lower than average vaccination rates in Illinois appear to be attributable in part to vaccine hesitancy and resistance among residents. As of August 17, Illinois has received about 15,935,400 vaccinations and administered about 89.0% of those doses.
