Son Of Chicago Firefighter, 7, Dies From Injuries Suffered In Fire: ME

The Cook County Medical Examiner identified the boy as Ezra Stewart, who was among three people who suffered smoke inhalation in the blaze.

CHICAGO — A 7-year-old boy who was among four people who sustained smoke inhalation during house fire earlier this week at a home belonging to a Chicago firefighter has died, the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office said on Thursday.

Ezra Stewart was among those who were injured in the house fire, which took place in the 2500 block of North Rutherford Avenue near Chicago’s Elmwood Park neighborhood just after 9 p.m. on Tuesday, fire officials said. Fire officials said that four people had been removed from the home on Wednesday and were taken to a local hospital in critical condition.

Fire officials told NBC Chicago the home belonged to a Chicago firefighter, who was dispatched to the scene after he heard about the fire on a scanner while he was working at another location. The report indicated that the firefighter helped administer life-saving measures to his family members before they were taken to the hospital.
