St. Patrick's Day 2018: When To See Chicago Parades, River Dyeing

Check out this year's events that make the city one of the best places in the country to celebrate the holiday.

CHICAGO, IL — When it comes to holidays, Chicago corners the market on three occasions: Kashmir Pulaski Day, anytime the Cubs win the World Series and St. Patrick's Day. And when it comes to St. Patrick's Day, the city has earned the distinction as the best in the country at celebrating the holiday, according to WalletHub.

To come up with its rankings, the personal finance website used 17 weighted categories —everything from traditions and costs to safety and weather — to compare how 200 of the largest U.S. cities observe St. Patrick's Day. Overall, Chicago beat out Boston as the best city to be in on the holiday. Other nearby cities that made the top 50 list included: Naperville (No. 13), Rockford (41) and Joliet (43).

Along with Chicago and Boston, the top five cities were, respectively: Philadelphia; Buffalo, New York; and New York City. And the worst city to be in on March 17, according to WalletHub's rankings? Moreno Valley, California. (Go to WalletHub's website for the complete list.)
