St. Patrick's Day: More Of Chicago River Will Be Green This Year

Spectators will be able to view the city's holiday tradition for an extra block Saturday.

CHICAGO, IL — Expect more of the Chicago River to be greener for St. Patrick's Day this year as organizers plan to dye the river for an extra block Saturday, the Chicago Tribune reports. The extension means spectators for the city's holiday tradition can view it from four bridges instead of simply three, the report added.

This year, the dyeing of the Chicago River will run between State Street and Columbus Drive, the report stated. The extended route also means a third boat will be needed to turn the water into the familiar emerald that Chicagoans have been enjoying on St. Patrick's Day since 1962, the report added.

The river dyeing will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday, March 17, and it will be followed by Chicago's St. Patrick's Day at noon.
