Streaming Soon: 'Ted Lasso' And 'The Movies That Made Us' Return

CHICAGO, IL (July 22, 2021) — From recently reopened theaters to the multitude of streaming platforms, new award-worthy content is being released this weekend - some with significant ties to Chicago.

"Ted Lasso"

The most-watched Apple TV+ series ever returns for season two after being nominated for 20 Emmys last week. The comedy starring Jason Sudeikis as a lovable and complicated football-turned-soccer coach continues to fill the void left by “Schitt’s Creek,” boasting the tagline “Kindness is making a comeback.” Co-creator Brendan Hunt is a Lakeview native who attended Kenwood Academy and Illinois State University. Sudeikis and co-creator Joe Kelly also have roots in Chicago comedy. On Apple TV+ July 23.

"Joe Bell"

Mark Wahlberg plays the father of a bullied gay son in this drama, the last screenplay penned by the late author and Oscar-winning screenwriter Larry McMurtry. The titular character attempts to walk across the U.S. to raise awareness for the harmful effects of bullying and intolerance. Connie Britton and Gary Sinise co-star in the painfully-real film, based on a true story. Only in theaters July 22.

"The Movies That Made Us"

This four-part Netflix series goes behind the scenes of classic films, from Steven Spielberg’s iconic “Jurassic Park” to Robert Zemeckis’ beloved “Back to the Future.” Season one is already streaming, featuring filmmakers’ stories about “Home Alone” and “Dirty Dancing.” On Netflix July 23.
