Here are the top 5 stories today in Chicago:

1. A 17-year-old boy was shot and injured Monday at the 79th Street Red Line station, just days after a 29-year-old man was shot and killed aboard a CTA train at the same stop. The Chicago Police Department announced earlier this week it would increase patrols on CTA platforms. (NBC)

2. City facilities will shift to entirely clean energy by 2025, according to a new plan announced this week by Mayor Lori Lightfoot. A $422 million contract with Constellation New Energy Inc. means Chicago will power airports and other major facilities using solar energy. (Block Club)

3. Police plan to step up security efforts at this weekend’s Bud Billiken Parade on the South Side amid a surge in gun violence. Chicago Police Supt. David Brown said officers will focus on rooftops and “other high ground areas in relation to that lesson learned from Highland Park.” (WBEZ)

4. Chicago colleges are preparing monkeypox mitigations ahead of the fall semester, the Tribune reports. Health experts are concerned the “social and sexual networks in colleges” could contribute to spreading the virus. More than 550 cases have been reported in the city so far. (Paid source: Tribune)

5. The success of the FX-Hulu hit “The Bear” is causing a spike in demand for Italian beef at Chicago-inspired restaurants nationwide. According to the New York Times, beef orders have doubled at spots in Brooklyn, Kansas City and especially right here at home: Mr. Beef averaged more than 800 sandwich sales per day in July, up from its usual 250 before “The Bear.” (Paid source: New York Times)
