1. Three teenagers were shot in Chicago Tuesday evening in the span of one hour, WGN reports. A 15-year-old boy was shot and killed in the 3500 block of West Leland. An hour earlier, two teens were shot and injured outside the Henry E. Legler Regional Branch of the Chicago Public Library. (WGN)
2. Funeral services were held Wednesday for Officer Areanah Preston. She was a week away from getting her master's degree from Loyola University when she was shot and killed outside her Avalon Park home. Police Superintendent Fred Waller called her “a bright light taken away from the city far too soon.” (WTTW)
3. Sales of AR-15-style rifles remain banned in the state of Illinois after a Supreme Court ruling Wednesday, according to multiple reports. Gun rights groups and a Naperville gun store owner attempted to block the ban. (Washington Post)
4. Mayor Brandon Johnson visited migrant shelters Tuesday in Pilsen and Little Village. “I’m here today because I needed to see it firsthand,” Johnson said, the day after he was sworn in to serve as Chicago’s mayor. (Paid source: Tribune)
