Watch This Weekend: New Films And Shows Begin Streaming March 26
Jean Smart, Lauren Graham and Cynthia Erivo give compelling performances in new streaming content.

CHICAGO (March 26, 2021) — As movie theaters across the state begin reopening plans, streaming services continue to provide premium content to watch from home. From the stories of powerful female artists to throwback family fun, these are the best new films and TV series to watch from home this weekend.
“Senior Moment”
William Shatner, Jean Smart and Christopher Lloyd play Palm Springs retirees in the refreshingly fun comedy. Love stories for the above-60 set are all too rare, and this one thankfully doesn’t take itself too seriously. Shatner plays a womanizing former NASA test pilot who loses his driver’s license for drag racing and meets a bakery owner on the bus. Though it doesn’t break any ground, the oddball film from director Giorgio Serafini is unique and sweet. Many continue to find pandemic solace in lighthearted fare, and "Senior Moment" is as light as it comes, not limited to viewers of a certain age. In select theaters and On Demand.
“Genius: Aretha”
All eight episodes of this compelling National Geographic series are now streaming on Hulu, following the life of the Queen of Soul. Academy Award nominee Cynthia Erivo plays Aretha Franklin in the cinematic cable show, moving back and forth in time throughout the singer’s iconic career. Covering the span of her life from being a teen mom to becoming a household name, the music is, of course, the cornerstone of the show from producers Ron Howard, Brain Grazer and Suszan-Lori Parks (who also wrote Hulu’s Oscar-nominated film “The United States vs. Billie Holiday). Franklin’s political activism and strides as a woman in music make for especially timely viewing.

“The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers”
The puck drops this Friday on a new Disney+ series that finds Emilio Estevez returning to his role as youth hockey coach Gordon Bombay. A new spin on the iconic film franchise spans 10 episodes and co-stars prolific TV actor Lauren Graham as the mother of 12-year-old Evan, who is cut from the now ultra-competitive Ducks and decides to form a team of his own. The humor and heart of the original films remains in the new show, which reunites most of the old cast. From “13 Going on 30” and “What Women Want” screenwriter Cathy Yuspa, this heartfelt comedy is a 1-2-3 triple deke.
“Super Soul”
Oprah Winfrey brings her philosophical and spiritual conversation series to the streaming service, interviewing public figures like Chip and Joanna Gaines, Andra Day and Priyanka Chopra Jonas about their personal journeys. Winfrey's signature interview style brings a sense of comfort and levity to these deep conversations. New episodes stream every weekend.

“New Amsterdam”
Though the NBC series airs Tuesday nights in prime time, the medical drama starring Ryan Eggold is worth catching up on this weekend. The only show of its kind to adequately express the challenges of the pandemic and its psychological impact on healthcare workers, the character-driven drama hearkens back to the NBC of old, airing Emmy-winning series like “ER." Streaming now on Hulu.
