Sunday was a great sports day for Chicago. The Sky won Game 1 of the WBNA Finals, besting the Phoenix Mercury 91-77. Quarterback Justin Fields threw his first NFL touchdown during the Bears' 20-9 upset victory over the Las Vegas Raiders. The Bulls beat the Cleveland Cavaliers 102-101 in a preseason matchup. About 35,000 people ran in the Chicago Marathon.

- Did you know that more than a month after the start of school, about 70 percent of 477 public school districts statewide that took up Gov. J.B. Pritzker on "free" SHIELD Illinois coronavirus testing got what they paid for it? Nothing, that is. I came across emails that shed light on the over-hyped operation's failure to deliver on testing promises in public schools.

- Chicago Park District Superintendent Michael Kelly resigned over the weekend after Mayor Lori Lightfoot went public with her desire to have him fired for being slow to respond and take action after learning a "culture of sexual abuse, harassment, and coercion that has become pervasive" within the park district's lifeguard program. - “I have never been this close to a shooting before, and I feel terrible that someone died," a witness said after a mass shooting on Milwaukee Avenue in Wicker Park left one person dead and four wounded early Sunday. (CBS2)
- The Chicago Marathon made a triumphant return after being canceled due to the coronavirus crisis last year. Seifu Tura Abdiwak of Ethiopia crossed the finish line first in 2 hours, six minutes and 12 seconds. Ruth Chepngetich of Kenya won the women's race, finishing in 2:22:31. (WTTW)
- Prosecutors say a man punched a woman in Lake View after she asked him to stop pleasuring himself in public. The woman was walking her dog Wednesday when she happened upon James Caesar, 26, who faces felony charges, police said. “I saw a pregnant woman walking towards him and warned her,” the woman wrote on a neighborhood message board. “That’s when he proceeded to run at me with a closed fist and punched me in the head.”(CWB)
