Wind Advisory in Effect Until 4 P.M.

A High-Wind Advisory is in effect until 4 p.m. today for Cook, DuPage, Kane, Will, Kendall and Grundy counties, according to the National Weather Service.

A wind advisory means sustained winds of 30 to 39 mph and gusts between 45 and 57 mph are likely. The strongest winds are expected between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., 35 mph sustained southwest winds. The National Weather Service warns that this will make for difficult travel conditions, especially for high-profile vehicles.

Secure lightweight outdoor objects or bring them indoors, as winds at this speed could cause damage.

• Today: A 20 percent chance of rain after 3 pm. Increasing clouds, with a high near 62. Windy, with a south southwest wind 20 to 25 mph becoming southwest 25 to 30 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 40 mph.
• Tonight: Cloudy, then gradually becoming partly cloudy, with a low around 36. Breezy, with a northwest wind 20 to 25 mph decreasing to 10 to 15 mph after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 35 mph.
