Winter Storm Numbers: Snowfall Highs, Grounded Flights & Pizza?

UPDATED: Patch breaks down some of the big numbers associated with the first big storm of the winter.

For a certain segment of Chicagoans, winter weather conditions can engender the same level of interest and passion that one usually finds in Bears fans. The Weather Channel is their ESPN, and Friday's snowstorm rolling through northern Illinois is a hotly contentious rivalry game with the Green Bay Packers at Soldier Field.

And just like Bears fans are obsessed with team and player statistics during games, winter weather fans have their own figures they pore over, too. Think of it as advance metrics for snow.

Patch takes a look at some of the numbers so far connected with the snowstorm, which, if you'll excuse the mixed sports metaphors, looks like it's heading into a second and even third round this weekend, according to the National Weather Service. Snow could continue falling through late Sunday morning, the weather service forecasts.

Rank for Lou Malnati's, the highest rating for an Illinois pizza shop on The Daily Meal's list of the best in the United States. A dozen pizza parlors from the state made the list by the popular food and restaurant website.

What's that? Pizza has nothing to do with this weekend's snowstorm? Guess again. Not only is Friday, Feb. 9, National Pizza Day, but your mind definitely will be thinking about the best nearby pizza parlors delivering as the snowflakes continue to fall around dinner time and you forgot to stock the fridge.
