CHICAGO — A woman died after she fell onto the CTA tracks and hit the third rail Sunday afternoon on Chicago's North Side, according to police.

The incident occurred around 4:30 p.m. in the 1500 block of Sedgwick Street, police said. The 21-year-old woman fell to her death at the Sedgwick stop for brown and purple line trains, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.

The woman, identified by police as a Jane Doe, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to law enforcement, who said detectives were investigating.
