The two can be seen on video escaping to safety as the Chicago Park District truck slid into Lake Michigan, reports said.

CHICAGO, IL — Two Chicago Park District employees escaped as a salt truck they were in slid on ice into Lake Michigan on Wednesday morning, police said, according to several reports. Radio reports indicate that the truck's driver lost traction while spreading salt on the lakefront path in the 900 block of North Lake Shore Drive around 7: 15 a.m., according to FOX 32.

Video showed the pair crawling to safety before the truck became submerged. The lakefront bike path was shut down from North Avenue to Oak Street as crews worked to get the truck out of the lake, the news report said.

The National Weather Service reported light snow and temperatures around 17 degrees Wednesday morning, with a 5 degree wind chill. Despite being in the cold water, both occupants refused medical treatment, according to police.
