3 In Custody For Doc's Drugs Heist, 1 Still On The Loose

The robbery crew tied up pharmacy employees before absconding with cash, liquor and drugs.

A Chicago Heights couple and a man from Park Forest were jailed in connection with last month’s audacious robbery of a Beecher drugstore.

Joseph Gunderson, 26, Joseph Piro, 23, and Katherine Gemo, also 23, all were arrested and booked into the Will County jail on charges of armed robbery, aggravated robbery and aggravated unlawful restraint.

Gunderson and Gemo were also charged with possession of a controlled substance.

Gemo and Piro live in Chicago Heights, according to jail records.

Agents from the Drug Enforcement Administration agents and the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area agents, along with detectives from the Will County Sheriff’s Department, helped the Beecher police investigate the Jan. 18 robbery of Doc’s Drugs on Dixie Highway.

A fourth crook remains at large.

Police said three masked bandits went into Doc’s Drugs while a fourth waited outside and acted as a lookout. Two of the robbers brandished handguns.

The stickup men zip-tied five drugstore employees before absconding with $22,907.55 worth of prescription medication, two bottles of Crown Royal and a box and a half of prescription pads.

The lookout stood in front of the drugstore and told at least one person the business was closed for the night.

Police released a sketch of the lookout last week.
