Bloom District 206 Plans to Cut Staff Next Year
A $10 million deficit and undelivered state funding is forcing the District 206 board to make some tough decision.

Members of the Bloom Township School District 206 board took action to reduce staff for the upcoming year during an April 8 meeting.
Six probationary teachers, one tenured teacher and five paraprofessionals are among those on the chopping block, reports the Northwest Indiana Times. Remaining paraprofessionals have accepted a two-year pay freeze.
Superintendent Lennell Navarre says the steps are necessary to address the districtβs $10 million deficit. The situation is aggravated by a state funding crisis, which may short District 206 out of $2.6 million in promised cash, according to District Treasurer Rob Grossi.
