Chicago Heights Citgo Loses About $12,000 in Gasoline
Tampering with the pumps may have given some lucky customers the cheapest gas they've had in years.

A gas station in Chicago Heights lost nearly 3,000 gallons of gas after someone apparently tampered with the pumps and offered up better deals than $4 per gallon, according to police.Β
On May 5, a 33-year-old clerk at the Citgo at 590 West 14th Street told police he noticed the fuel levels were low at the gas pumps. Knowing the station normally sells around 180 gallons per day, the clerk figured something was not right.
Upon further investigation the clerk found five pumps had been broken into and tampered with so that the gas could be pumped without the clerk knowing, according to the police report.
