Chicago Heights Man Dead In Apparent Suicide At New Lenox Gas Station

The 25-year-old man was found deceased in a car parked at a Circle K gas station in New Lenox Sunday.

NEW LENOX, IL — A Chicago Heights man has been identified as the driver found dead in a vehicle parked outside a New Lenox gas station Sunday. Police said the death was an apparent suicide.

Robert Craig Jr., 25, of Chicago Heights was pronounced dead Sunday at 1 p.m. at a Circle K gas station in the 400 block of Nelson Road, according to the Will County Coroner's Office.

Police said they were called to the scene around 11 a.m. Sunday, for a report of a car parked in the same spot overnight and a male driver who appeared to be asleep. Officers on-scene attempted to awaken the driver and noticed a handgun in his lap, according to police reports. Officers forced entry into the locked car and discovered the driver dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, according to police reports.

Evidence gathered at the scene showed that no one entered or exited the vehicle after it arrived and parked at the gas station, police said.

The scene was secured and there was no additional threat or danger to the community, police said.
