Crete Man Helped Steal $1,600, Cigarettes From Indiana BP Station: PD

Demarco (Shanky) Guy is being held without bond after police said he displayed a weapon in a gas station hold-up with another man.

DYER, IND. β€” A suburban Chicago man faces criminal charges out of Indiana after local authorities say he helped to take $1,600 and 10 cartons of cigarettes from a local gas station just before Christmas.

Police have charged Demarco β€œShanky” Guy of Crete with armed robbery, robbery, intimidation in theft in connection with a Dec. 23 incident at a BP station in Dyer. Ind.

Police said that Guy, along with another suspect only identified by β€œRaymond” walked into the office of a gas station on Sheffield Avenue in Dyer and demanded money. Police said in a news release that Guy displayed a weapon demanded cash and cigarettes from the clerk and then fled.

The pair got away with $1,600 in cash and 10 cartons of cigarettes, police said in a news release.

The Post-Tribune reported that the driver of the getaway vehicle had previously met Guy at a local crack house. He told police that Guy β€œrented” the car for crack and that they saw β€œRaymond” coming out of the gas station with a register drawer from a cash register after Guy and another man along with the driver had arrived at the gas station.

The car then took off from the station and went back to Indiana. Guy is currently being held without bond in Cook County Jail awaiting extradition, the newspaper reported.

Dyer Police Chief William Alcott did not immediately return an email seeking comment on the incident on Wednesday.
