Gunman Fails to Grab Woman's Purse: Police

Chicago Heights police were unable to find a suspect in an April 11 attack.

A gunman tried to grab the purse of a woman who was walking near the intersection of Division Street and Gregory Drive.

The 55-year-old Chicago Heights woman was walking alone at about 8:55 p.m. on April 11 when a man approached her from behind, according to a report.

When he approached, the man was wearing a ski mask and pulled out a silver and black handgun from his waistband, according to a report. The assailant pointed the gun at the woman and demanded her purse.

The woman refused, which started a brief tug of war over the purse, according to a report. The gunman fled after unsuccessfully grabbing the purse.

Police canvassed the area but were unable to find a suspect. They are treating the incident as an attempted armed robbery.
