Have a Splash: Three Great Nearby Swimming Pools

These pools range in depth, water slide length, price and requirements for use.

Despite the , summertime is here. That means it's about time to throw on the trunks and swimsuits and hit the diving boards.

In the interest of making your pool search a little easier, we've rounded up information on three great pools in the area. See which pool is best for you (and your wallet).

Skyline Pool has three swimming pools and a water slide. The pools vary in depth, ranging from a one-foot baby pool to a 12-foot diving board area. There is also a snack bar and deck areas for sun bathing.

The pools and slide are open from noon to 7 p.m. everyday, weather permitting. The pool ο»Ώcloses from 5 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. for a dinner break, and the slide closes from 5:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. for the same reason.Β

Skyline is membership only. Bloom Township residents pay $130 per individual membership or $175 per family. Out of township swimmers will have to pay $155 per individual membership or $200 per family. Members can bring a guest for $5 per person each day.

All swimmers must wear a swimsuit.

The Chicago Heights Park District offers open swim at the St. James Health and Wellness Center at specific hours every week:

  • Sunday - 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Monday - 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. and 8 p.m. to 10 p.m.
  • Tuesday - 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. and 8 p.m. to 10 p.m.
  • Wednesday - 6 a.m. to 10 a.m.
  • Thursday - 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. and 8 p.m. to 9 p.m.
  • Friday - 6 a.m. to 8 a.m.
  • Saturday - 9 a.m. to 10 a.m.

In order to swim at the Center's pool, residents and non-residents will need to register as swim members with the Chicago Heights Park District. Residents pay $50 for a one-year membership while non-residents pay $75 per year. An additional family member (18 or older) can be signed up for $25.

No swimming on Labor Day.

Park Forest Aqua Center

The Park Forest Aqua Center has several options, including a beach pool, a lap pool and a 160-foot water slide.

Open swim and water slides are open from noon to 8 p.m. on weekdays, and from noon to 7 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. Adult swim in the East Pool is available from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on weekdays, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturdays and noon to 7 p.m. Sundays. These hours will be in place until August 8.

The Center offers a daily guest pass for $10 per person and with prices dropping to $5 per person after 5 p.m.

For a membership, Park Forest residents pay $50 per person while non-residents pay $60 per person. Memberships are valid from now to September 4, 2011.

A valid ID is required for entry, and swimsuits with a liner must be worn.
