Judge Denies Bond For Wisconsin Man Accused Of Attacking Crete Couple
Attorneys for Michael Liu were seeking a reasonable bond for Liu, who faces 18 charges, including the attempted murder of his in-laws.

CRETE, IL — A Wisconsin man who faces 18 criminal charges, including the attempted murder of his in-laws, will remain behind bars without bond after appearing before a Will County judge on Thursday.
Michael Liu, 36, of Oak Creek, has been held without bond since police said he broke into the Crete home of his in-laws and attacked the couple with a knife, stabbing them multiple times. Police said Liu broke into the residence after shooting at the couple from outside the home and then attempted to shoot them once inside before the gun malfunctioned.
Prosecutors from the Will County State’s Attorney petitioned a judge on Thursday to keep Liu locked up without the possibility of bond. On Dec. 29, Liu was indicted on 18 criminal charges, including the attempted murder of both of his in-laws (four counts), home invasion (five counts), aggravated discharge of a firearm, residential burglary, aggravated domestic battery (two counts) and aggravated battery (four counts) as well as criminal trespassing.

Liu was ordered held on no bond when the indictment was handed down, but his attorneys were seeking to have him released on a reasonable bond on Thursday, Shaw Media reported.
Prosecutors say the attacks took place during a period of two days that a Wisconsin judge had granted Liu to report to a Wisconsin jail on a separate charge. Liu was permitted to remove an electronic monitoring device for those two days, Wisconsin prosecutors confirmed to Patch last month.

Police said that after breaking into the home, Liu attacked his 66-year-old mother-in-law with a knife and then attacked his 68-year-old father-in-law when he attempted to stop Liu from attacking the woman. Police said that Liu was seeking revenge on the couple ahead of a divorce from his estranged wife.
Shaw Media reported that if allowed to post bond, Liu would have returned to Wisconsin, but vowed not to have any contact with his family.
